Generally speaking, you should take at least seven to ten days off work or school to rest and recover, during which time you should take prescription or over-the-counter medications to minimize side effects including bruising, swelling, and discomfort. You should abstain from exercise for four to six weeks after surgery, or until your plastic surgeon clears you to resume physical activity.
