A nose correction procedure, which is also known as a rhinoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that is designed to adjust the size and shape of a nose. Rhinoplasties are most effective when the nose has already finished growing and the prospective patient is not only in good health but has realistic expectations of what their nose can transform into. Some of the most common issues that a nose correction surgery is used to address include:
- Imperfections of the nasal tip
- Crookedness
- A large dorsal hump
- An elongated or excessively wide nose
- Obstructed breathing caused by a deviated septum or other impeding nasal structure
During rhinoplasties, surgical incisions are typically made in areas of the nose that lead to minimal scarring that can be barely detected by the naked eye. Through these incisions, key areas of nasal tissue are accessed and removed. There are two types of nose correction surgeries as well. A closed rhinoplasty describes a nasal surgery that only uses incisions made inside the nose; this procedure is perfect for mild corrections. Open rhinoplasty is used in more extensive cases and incorporates a small incision across the columella.
